Jesus’ Question for You

“Who do you say I am?” – Matthew 16:15

Some years ago Christian writer C. S. Lewis pointed out that there are only four possible conclusions you can reach about Jesus. Either He was a liar, or He was self-deceived, or He was insane—or He was in fact who He claimed to be: the Son of God.

Which was He? The only logical conclusion is that Jesus was the Son of God. A liar couldn’t have taught the lofty moral principles He did. A self-deceived person couldn’t have performed the miracles He did. A lunatic couldn’t have held up under pressure the way Jesus did. After closely observing His life every day, His disciples reached their conclusion: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).

But there is an even more compelling reason to believe that Jesus was who He claimed to be: His resurrection from the dead. In all of human history, only one Person came back from the grave; Jesus Christ “was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead” (Romans 1:4). Who do you say He is?
