The overnight change presented a huge challenge for teachers, parents, and students everywhere. And as an elementary school music teacher, Lizzie decided to use music as a way to express her feelings.

“So, I wrote a song. I’d like to share that with you guys now,” Lizzie says in a video she recorded from home and uploaded onto the social media site, TikTok.

As she begins gently strumming her ukelele, most everyone expected some kind of sweet song. But boy did Lizzie have a surprise in store!

And her unexpected original tune quickly went viral, as it perfectly sums up how so many of us are feeling during these crazy times.

Lizzie Smith, now known as the screaming music teacher, became an Internet sensation overnight.

“I woke up and when I checked my TikTok that morning I had close to 1,000 followers which was double what it had been,” she recalled.

Her TikTok video started appearing on TV shows from all over. And the unexpected screaming certainly had news anchors and audiences tearing up from laughing so hard.

But the song succinctly sums up how so many people are feeling. And surely that added to its popularity.

“With this particular TikTok I remember being very frustrated with the way distance learning had been going so far,” Lizzie says. “All the teachers that have talked to me or have commented on my post, they’ve said thank you this is absolutely relatable, you’ve put into words how I feel about online teaching too, and I’m glad that I was able to express how they’re feeling as well.”

In these uncertain times, I think all of us are feeling ready to scream. Thankfully, this clever elementary school music teacher blessed us with a moment of laughter instead!
