When David Pendragon talked with his cousin, Emily, he was crushed to hear about her 10-year-old son, Ryker. You see, Ryker loves cats. They are his favorite animal. And can you blame him? There are thousands of cat lovers out there. Just look at all the cat memes and videos on the Internet!

So, when Ryker picked out his lunch box for school, he was thinking about how much he loved cats. A cosmic lunch box covered with kitty heads seemed like a dream come true. He wasn’t thinking about what all the other kids would think.

But kids can be pretty cruel. And when he showed up to class, proudly sporting his new cat lunch box, other kids started teasing him.
The bullying devastated Ryker. He didn’t even want to take lunch to school anymore. And hearing all of this broke David’s heart. And so, David came up with a brilliant way to support his 10-year-old cousin!
Inspirational Story About A Lunch Box — The Perfect Response
David wanted to show Ryker there was nothing wrong with him or the lunch box he’d selected.
“I have decided, however, to stand with my little cousin and show him that a man can love whatever he wants and not be afraid to express that love,” he wrote on Facebook.
So, David ordered his very own cosmic kitty lunch box. Dressed smartly in his suit and tie, David carries the lunch box with him every day into his corporate, conservative workplace. He shares Ryker’s story with all who ask and everyone who’s heard it stands behind the 10-year-old boy, too.
“There’s no one way to be a man,” David says. “I love my new lunchbox and I hope Ryker and all the other boys out there can see that their passion and self-expression is never something to be ashamed of.”

It’s so sad to see the damage a couple of school bullies can do — to see Ryker’s joy so brutally squashed. Most of us have experienced a similar moment — where someone else’s words or judgment knocks the wind right out of our sails.

And that’s probably why David’s post about Ryker’s experience struck such a chord on Facebook. Thousands upon thousands of people shared, reacted to, and commented on the post, applauding David and supporting Ryker.
There’s a reason God’s Word tells us to be in the world but not of it. Our society tells us there’s a certain way we’re all supposed to look, feel, live, etc. But the truth is, we aren’t all meant to be the same. God designed each of us differently.
“For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” Romans 12:4-5
So, this inspirational story about a lunch box is a great reminder that we should focus on pleasing God, not people. He’s the one who formed us.
