Beauty is only skin deep.
Here’s a supermodel that offers an amazing testimony and acts as a positive role model for young girls everywhere! I bet you never thought you would hear THOSE words?! Read on for the whole story!
1 Peter 3:3-4 teaches us, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.”
Chantelle Winnie is a fashion star and has become a supermodel with a message!
Winnie has something that makes her modeling presence unforgettable, other than her confidence, she has vitiligo. Vitiligo is a rare condition that causes the loss of skin pigmentation in sections all over her body. The Toronto native was diagnosed at age 4, and for most of us that would have stopped us in our tracks of becoming a model. But not Winnie. She kept her head high and never stopped believing in herself.
She was invited to walk in the Fashion Art Toronto shows in 2013 and that’s where she caught Tyra Banks' attention. Tyra invited her to compete in the 21st season of "America's Next Top Model." And although Winnie was quickly eliminated, her confidence in who she was and believing that God made her special for a reason, kept her going.
This experience of participating on Tyra’ show caught even more attention from runway directors and designers and photographers in the mainstream modeling world. Thus a star was born!
Matthew 5:8 also says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
Winnie has had numerous opportunities to treat her vitiligo symptoms, such as skin dye, UVA treatments or surgery, but she’s choosing to enjoy her skin exactly as it is. Why would you want to cover up such beauty?
Philippians 4:8 continues to teach us, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
"If one day I'm all black, I'm still a model. If one day I'm all white, I'm still a model," she says. "I am not my skin. I am a model with a skin condition."
Praise God for her courage and self-esteem. She has overcome so many hurdles to be there and it shows. She shines on the runway and reminds us all to love ourselves just as God made us. We are PERFECT in His eyes!
