Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover
Meet Chopper, an adorable 5-year-old Boston terrier. But Chopper is more than just a cute dog. He's a dog with a purpose. . .and a motorcycle! As a therapy dog, this pup regularly visits schools and hospitals in the San Diego area, putting smiles on the faces of those that he meets.
‘As soon as Chopper rides into someone’s room on his motorcycle, the patients start to laugh and smile. Each therapy dog brings something different to the table and Chopper’s whole package provides the therapy,' explains Chopper's human, Mark Shaffer.
The ‘whole package' consists of doggy goggles, a bandana, a vest, and, of course, a miniature motorcycle. But this ‘bad to the milk bone' get-up is exactly why he just had his therapy dog license suspended, despite the joy it brings to his patients. According to Mark's FaceBook page, the letter from Pet Partners (the organization suspending the license) cites the following reasons, among a few others:
‘We are concerned about the clothing in which Chopper is in the community. We are also concerned about the perception that your team may be creating in the community with regard to therapy animals.'
Mark is working hard to get the word out in hopes that Pet Partner will change their minds on the decision to revoke the therapy license. And in the meantime, Chopper is attending other community events such as fundraisers so he can keep spreading the love.
