90-Year-Old Shut-In Mails Heartfelt Letter To Neighbor Pleading For A Friend

I hardly ever get mail anymore, unless it’s a bill. So I cannot even imagine opening my mail and finding a letter like this.

When Marleen Brooks opened her mailbox one evening she found something that changed the entire course of her life. The letter was written by Wanda Mills who lives a few doors down from Marleen. Marleen was shocked at what Wanda wrote in the letter.

90-year-old Wanda wrote that all her friends had died and that she was very lonely and scared. In the letter she asked Marleen if she could be her friend. Reading the letter broke Marleen’s heart. The very next day she went over to Wanda’s house and they became instant friends. And I can’t help but wonder how many letters like this Wanda may have written over the years hoping someone would answer.

Thankfully Marleen answered. The two became instant friends and Marleen made sure to not just give Wanda friendship but to give her a family.

Wanda is now in a nursing home but Marleen still visits her at least four times a week. And most of the time Marleen brings her kids and all the rambunctious energy that comes with them. And you can tell Wanda doesn’t mind, in fact she seems to love the craziness her new family brings. Wanda is so grateful for the company and says that God sent Marleen at just the right time.

When Wanda wrote the letter she didn’t really expect Marleen to reply, but boy is she glad she did. Wanda knows that she wrote that letter to a neighboor, but the answer came from God above. Marleen’s experience with Wanda lit a spark in her to help other seniors in the same situation. Recently, she started a group called Pen Pals For Seniors to help more seniors feel less alone. It broke Marleen’s heart that a woman as wonderful as Wanda ever had to feel that lost and lonely, and she wants to make sure no other senior has to feel that way.

What an amazing story of God’s faithfulness. Who was tearing up after listening to this story? I sure was!
