The greatest impact you can have on anyone is rising to the challenge and pursuing it with passion. Charles has been an English professor for more than fifty years. When the pandemic hit, Charles took it in stride and decided to learn how to implement the finer arts of teaching online.

Not only did he get past the learning curve, but he also rose above it. Why? Because Charles Krohn has a passion for the written language and wants to inspire each of his students to love the written word too.

But he was having issues with his computer one afternoon and asked his daughter Julia if he could use her computer. His daughter was awestruck when she caught him. She couldn't believe he was still excited and passionate about teaching the same material that he had been teaching for decades.

She was so proud that she had to snap a picture and post it to Facebook. “The fact that [he’s teaching] virtually and still engaging and so smart and so quick … it was just this beautiful moment that I just had to capture,” she said.

She posted a candid photo of her father, Charles Krohn, sitting at her computer and then wrote this under the caption: "My father has been a professor of English at The University of St. Thomas for 50+ years. Here he is, at 91 years old, embracing virtual teaching like a BOSS."

She continued: “Listening to and watching him teach Homer's The Odyssey is a true gift. He's been teaching it for decades, and yet he has the passion and excitement for the text as though it's the first time. These kids have no idea how lucky they are.”

Internet Falls In Love With Charles Krohn

Julia didn't think anything of her heartwarming post until it went viral with more than 64,000 likes, 30,000 shares, and thousands of comments. Apparently, she isn't the only one who adores Charles. Some of his former students commented on the photo!

One former student wrote, "He taught me so much & opened up a new world of literature. His passion and dedication were not unnoticed. I'll never forget my experience w/ Krohn.”

Another former student added, "Professor Krohn was my UST English professor in Fall ‘92 and Spring ‘93. And right now, he is my daughter's UST English professor.”

There were so many positive and encouraging comments that Julia couldn't help but sit down with her dad and read each of them to Charles Krohn, which brought tears to his eyes. What a blessed way to inform someone how they made an impact on your life.

I imagine the comments warmed his heart and encouraged him to keep doing what he does best–teaching the next generation to love the written word. May we all be encouraged to share our gifts with the world. We may never know the impact, but at least we can do it all for the glory of God.
