Every year during the holiday season, heartwarming commercials debut full of stories of families coming together. One particular commercial that aired in Germany is touching hearts all over the internet. The video depicts an adult daughter visiting her elderly father in a nursing home.
Her father who is struggling with a memory disease like Dementia or Alzheimer’s can sadly no longer remember her. During each visit she brings him something hoping it will spark his memory. For one visit she brings flowers in hopes that something will spark in his mind. But, it doesn’t work. She walks away desperately wishing that her father could know her once again, if only for a moment.

As she walks into the elevator to go home, she starts sobbing. As a daughter, it is breaking her heart that her dad can’t remember who she is. Then, she gets a brilliant idea. Maybe if she could somehow get her dad to see the home they grew up in, it would trigger some memories.

So, she picked up a virtual reality headset and recorded a walk-thru of the entire house. Then she went back to visit her dad and asked him to put on the headset. As soon as the footage of his home started playing, he instantly remembered.
All of the memories he had with his daughter over the years came flooding back into his mind. When he took off the headset he knew exactly who was sitting beside him. His daughter started crying and hugged him.

She was so overwhelmed with joy and gratitude that he was able to remember bits and pieces of their life together!
Having Alzheimer’s is an extremely tough disease. It probably pains this father just as much as it does his daughter not to be able to recognize and remember faces. What an amazing way to use technology to reunite two loved ones!
