While quarantining during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos realized just how very blessed their family is. So, they decided to give more than $1 million dollars help homeless kids this school year.

The global COVID-19 pandemic has been a wake-up call for many of us. Life as we know it has changed drastically. And we’re realizing there are so many simple things we take for granted each day.

This season has been trying for everyone. But some face even more challenges than others. And that’s something that dawned on celebrity couple Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos as they quarantined at their Long Island, N.Y. home with their kids: Michael, Lola, and Joaquin.

“We realize how lucky we are - for all of us to be together like this is probably never going to happen again,” Mark said. "This time has been so horrible for so many people.”

A New Set Of Challenges

A new school year is now starting amidst the ongoing pandemic. And most school systems are switching to online learning from home. But for families without access to reliable internet or compatible devices, distance learning provides some serious obstacles.

Thanks to their jobs on TV, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are able to fulfill all of their children’s needs. But they realize that is a special blessing not everyone enjoys.

"We were watching our kids, with all of their technology, and Mark and I said, ‘Learning remotely is so difficult . . . how are they possibly doing this at WIN?'” Kelly said, referring to a charity she and her husband support.

WIN helps homeless women in New York City and their children, providing services and safe housing. But now, these struggling families will need help providing a means for their children’s education, too. And just as Kelly suspected, this presents a serious challenge for charities like WIN.

“Sure enough, they didn't have the Wi-Fi, tablets, or other things they needed,” the TV star said.

Kelly Ripa And Mark Consuelos Make Huge Donation

God has certainly blessed Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. And we read in Luke 12:48 that to whomsoever much is given, much will be required.

When God blesses us, it is His desire for us to bless others in return. And that’s exactly what Kelly and Mark decided to do!

The couple had already donated $1 million dollars to the New York governor's office and WIN in March to help with coronavirus relief efforts. And Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos gave another $500,000 to WIN so the charity could help make sure homeless children have access to the technology needed for virtual learning.

“Learning remotely under the best of circumstances is very challenging,” Kelly said. “Without proper technology, it is simply impossible.”

Seeing the challenges these homeless families face again reminded Kelly and Mark to count their blessings.

“It certainly made us stop complaining about spotty WiFi or kids not having a graduation ceremony,” Kelly said. “Those things look really small really fast.”

The couple is also hoping their donation will inspire others with the means to help out to do so.

“We hope other people who have luckier circumstances like we do will help people living below the poverty line," Kelly says. "It makes a difference forever."
