One young woman, a barefoot rodeo queen and an aspiring musician, turned in a moving performance. She sang an original song of hers about her late grandfather on America's Got Talent.
Country music has legions of dedicated fans. The genre's sweet, easy-listening melodies and toe-tapping, catchy lyrics have made it a favorite of many. Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band and a handful of other country music artists consistently reach the top of the charts.
Kylie Frey, a 28-year-old woman from Opelousas, Louisiana, aspires to be a musician and hopes to follow in the footsteps of another country music superstar: Reba McEntire.
During her audition on America's Got Talent, Kylie, while barefoot, explained to the judges how she got her start singing the national anthem at rodeos. She also added that she sings at all the rodeos she attends because of advice her grandfather gave her.
"So, I wrote this song for my grandpa," she confessed. "He always told me that if I sang the national anthem for every rodeo that I showed up to, that one day, someone would ask me to sing the national anthem at the NFR. Which is the Super Bowl of rodeo, and that's how I was going to get my start. Because that's how Reba did."
After a few moments of back and forth with the audience, several other musicians walk out on stage, and Kylie gets into her song.
