Officer Seara Burton from Richmond, VA had a great relationship with the community that she served, and one act of kindness shows this incredibly well. Recently, Officer Burton was responding to help other officers when she was shot and later died from the injury. Once the news of her passing was shared, many gifts were given in her honor.

But one gift outshined them all. One day, someone walked into the police station and handed over a well-used white envelope in Seara's honor. Inside there were 8 one-dollar bills. And on the outside of the envelope, four words were written: "People from the street."

The person dropping off the gift shared that many people in the homeless community were taking up a donation that they wanted to give to Seara's family.

When Richmond Police Lieutenant Donnie Benedict heard about the $8 donation, he was almost speechless. “What do you say to it? I mean it’s amazing that somebody decided to do that,” he said.

“There have been many valuable gifts given in honor of Seara. However none, and I mean none, are more valuable than the gift of 8 $1 bills in a dirty white envelope,” Lieutenant Benedict said at Officer Burton's funeral.

Support for the Homeless Follows Donation to Fallen Officer

The heartwarming act of kindness touched the Richmond community, especially resident Amber Conley. "They gave everything they had and they don’t even know where their next meal is coming from,” she said.

That's when Amber took to Facebook to ask for donations to give back to the homeless.

“Ask and you shall receive; we’ve got more donations in the last 12 hours than we have in the entire 3 days. It’s been insane,” Amber said.

The donations that they have collected include everything from blankets, coats, water, tents, and more. And the items already fill an entire room in the Richmond Fire Station.

“Her mom told me that she would love this," shared Amber. "She would love people helping people and reaching out. Everyone feels so hopeless, and I feel like now that unfortunately Seara is gone, this is the best legacy you could ever leave behind, people showing kindness to the other citizens in honor of her.”

“If nothing else good comes from this horrible tragedy, it is the fact that this community has rallied behind our police officers [and] our homeless,” said Amber.
