This classic Christmas song was conceived by singer-songwriter Mark Lowry. The idea for the song came to him when he was writing a Christmas program for Jerry Falwell in 1984.

Mark started thinking about what he would ask Mary if she was sitting right in front of him and how she must have felt. He put together the questions that eventually became the lyrics we know and love today.

The One Voice Children’s Choir Takes On Classic Christmas Hymn
In 1991, once the lyrics were complete, Mark asked his friend Buddy Greene to music to accompany his words. It only took 30 minutes for Buddy to compose the iconic music for Mary, Did You Know?

After it's recording, the song went on to become a modern Christmas favorite and has been covered by countless artists over the years.
