You're Only As Old As You Feel

When Christine started planning her wedding to Patrick, the arrangements were what you'd typically expect for a wedding. Happy couple, beautiful gown, gorgeous setting. . .you know, the usual.

But it turns out the beautiful bride did have one surprise in store.

No, it wasn't some choreographed parade down the aisle or epic first dance prank like you see on the internet these days. No pop-up flash mobs. It was something so unexpectedly sentimental that it will have your heart instantly in a puddle on the floor.

Amidst the usual bridesmaids, Christine had one very special addition. She asked her 89-year-old grandma and best friend, Nana Betty, to join the bridal party.

Christine knew her sweet granny wasn't big on being the center of attention, and so she was worried she'd say "no." The bride says that after she made the request, Nana Betty repeatedly asked, "Are you sure? Why would you want an old lady in your bridal party?"

But oh, thank Heavens, Nana Betty finally agreed. And she added so much to the already special day. Christine says,

"She had the entire wedding party laughing with her words of wisdom and funny comments throughout the day."

And it's Nana Betty's sweet, humorous disposition that made her one of this bride's "must have" bridesmaids. Christine says,

“While she doesn't live that close, we have continually made it a point to spend as much time together as possible. She just has an amazing sense of humor and outlook on life that I strive to emulate every day. Everyone loves her.”

And everyone does love her — including us!

Not surprisingly, Nana Betty was a huge hit at the wedding. And she had a wonderful time herself. According to the bride, she spent the whole night dancing, and even joined the wedding party on the party bus instead of going home!

I just love the relationship that these two share. And how wonderful it is to see this bride honoring her grandmother in such a special way. What a blessed memory for both the bride and Nana Betty, who said:

"You're only as old as you feel and I feel young today.”

"Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the aged. Fear your God. I am the LORD." Leviticus 19:32
