Faith Roberts, a surviving conjoined twin, gets married and has a very special guest in attendance. Janin Pierce, the same nurse who held Faith’s hand at birth, is also there on the day she says, “I do.”

In a heartwarming story only God could create, nurse Janin Pierce, who was at Faith Roberts’s birth, found herself as the officiant at Faith's wedding. The touching story unfolds over 22 years, illustrating the bond caregivers have in our lives.

On February 1, 1999, Faith and her conjoined twin, Rose Aimee came into the world. They were born face-to-face. Tragically, Rose passed away three days later.

"She couldn't survive on her own," Faith said. "She was using my blood and my heart to pump through her body, kind of like I was her backup generator. And it was working for a little bit - like 24 hours. And then they realized it was killing me because I couldn’t keep both of us alive. So they decided to try to save one."

Faith's life wasn't without its challenges. The hospital where she was born became her second home. The staff became family, especially Janin. She was there for many of Faith's surgeries. From breaking and resetting her jaw, adding rods to her back, and a surgically inserted mesh screen as abdominal walls, Janin was there for it all.

“She took care of me once, and we never let her go,” Faith said.

Conjoined Twin Gets Married

Despite the unique challenges that come with being a conjoined twin, Janin remained a steadfast presence for Faith. Janin's nurturing spirit and genuine care became a source of strength for the conjoined twins, fostering a bond that transcended the typical caregiver-patient relationship. 24 years later, Faith, the surviving conjoined twin prepared to get married to Tyler Roberts, the love of her life she met at camp when she was 12.

As Faith imagined her wedding day, she couldn't imagine anyone else other than Janin being the minister who officiated her wedding. Not only was Janin a nurse, she was also a youth minister.

To Faith, it was the perfect full-circle moment. The very hands she held on the day of her birth were now uniting Faith in marriage. It’s a testament to the enduring impact that healthcare professionals can have on the lives of those they care for, even in the most extraordinary circumstances.

“She is the person who literally carried me my entire life,” Faith said. “I couldn’t imagine anyone else marrying me to my husband.”

Sharing A Special Moment

During the ceremony, Janin had a chance to reflect on the journey she shared with Faith, the conjoined twin who was now getting married.

"22 years ago I had the privilege of holding Faith Rose’s hand just hours after her birth,” she said. “And today I have the pleasure of uniting her hand in marriage to this fine young man."

As we praise the Lord for stories that touch the soul, this story stands out as a testament to the power of compassion, resilience, and the relationships that can form in the unlikeliest of places.

The nurse’s journey from holding tiny hands to officiating a wedding is not just heartwarming; it’s a reflection of the beauty that can emerge from the most unexpected beginnings.
