Why These Dogs Are Refusing To Leave The Woods Is Truly Touching

A Group Of Dogs Stand Watch

Sometimes a picture can be far more powerful than words. That was certainly the case when an Idaho man stumbled upon a touching scene amidst the havoc wreaked by wildfires upon the forest surrounding his home. Nestled amongst all of the destruction sat a beautiful display of compassion, as a group of dogs stood guard over the body of a fawn.

This one got me in the feels. Lots of destruction and sadness in the Kamiah area – I found this dead fawn this morning….

Louis Armstrong had returned to the Kamiah area to check on his family’s home after having been evacuated due to wildfires that wound up destroying 42 homes. Thankfully, Louis’ home was spared, but much of the property he owned was destroyed.

The man was out walking the family’s several-hundred acre tree farm, surveying the damage, when he noticed his neighbor’s dog and her two pups laying on the ground. Nearby lay the body of a young fawn — a victim of the terrible fire.

“They were definitely trying to protect it,” Louis said. “I thought it was pretty amazing.”

Moved by the sight, Louis took a picture. The dogs kept up their vigil until sunset, keeping potential predators at bay for what Louis estimated to be around 13 hours.

The display of compassion is a beautiful reminder of how light will always manage to cut through the darkness. No matter how fierce the storm, no matter how bad the damage, love can still be found. God is with us through everything!

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
