It has been every child's dream to wake up Christmas morning and find a puppy waiting with a big red bow. And for many kids that dream becomes a reality at least once in their life. Hopefully that puppy becomes part of the family, and as they grow up and become a dog they stay just as loved as they ever were. But sadly that is not always the case.
Sometimes a child loses interest in their puppy and not long after their joy consumed them they find themselves bored or even angry with their new dog. Often families don't actually know what raising a puppy takes and when they find out how difficult it can be they aren't willing to put in the time and energy.
So that dog winds up abandoned or returned to a shelter. The RSPCA wants to make sure that we all remember that getting a puppy for Christmas is a commitment, so they made this powerful ad.
The video opens with a little boy so thrilled to get a stuffed dog for Christmas. That stuffed pup is this little guy's best friend. Until the dog gets a little messy and a bit older and the little boy simply abandons him. The abandoned dog's time out in the world leads to injuries and the stuffed dog winds up in the trash.
That is until the rescuers from the SPCA come by to save him. IT's not until he is healed and finds a new family that the video reveals this heartbreaking story is actually one of a real dog. As soon as I saw that elderly dog all curled up in a warm bed my heart was so heavy.
What a powerful video. Please remember that dogs, cats or other animals are part of the family not just tokens to be exchanged during the holidays.
