When we dive beneath the surface of the ocean, we expect to witness wondrous aquatic life and beautiful views of the ocean floor, but a scuba diver found something entirely different-taking him back in time! Shlomi Katzin a scuba diver makes a 900-year-old discovery that's beautiful and rare.

Sholmi happened to be diving off the Carmel coast when the scuba diver found something truly unexpected on the seabed.
What looked to be a tangled mess of seashells and sea organisms in the shape of a cross turned out to be a 900-year-old crusader sword!
Sholmi feared this precious piece of history would become buried again in the shifting sand beds of the ocean. So, he took the sword ashore.
There, he contacted the Israel Antiquities Authority Northern District's Robbery Prevention Unit. And they took this incredible piece of history to the National Treasures Department.
Authorities In Awe Of What Scuba Diver Found
According to Nir Distelfeld, an Inspector for the Israel Antiquities Authority's Robbery Prevention Unit, the sword the scuba diver found was in great shape!

"The sword, which has been preserved in perfect condition, is a beautiful and rare find and evidently belonged to a Crusader knight. It was found encrusted with marine organisms but is apparently made of iron. It is exciting to encounter such a personal object, taking you 900 years back in time to a different era, with knights, armor and swords," Nir said. This amazing discovery leads researchers to believe the cove where the sword was found was used as a port for ships seeking shelter.
The authorities are grateful for people like Sholmi who are willing to do the right thing. This helps preserve history and allows the public to witness these pieces of history.
Sholmi didn’t do the right thing with the expectation of getting anything in return. But as a thank you, he was presented with a certificate of appreciation for good citizenship.
