"I want to remind you of a little thing called cross-contamination," she says in the video.

During this coronavirus pandemic, many people have been wearing gloves out in public. For example, while they are doing their errands, like going to the grocery store. But Molly shows that one might not be as protected as they think while they are wearing those gloves.

Nurse Explains Cross-Contamination

In the video, Molly acts out a shopping trip while she is wearing gloves. And she uses green paint to demonstrate how germs spread from one surface to another.

"Oh, my nose itches, let me just itch my nose," Molly Lixbie says while she quickly wipes her nose while wearing latex gloves.

Now there is a bit of green paint from her gloves on her face.

"Oh, now my phone's ringing. It's my mom," Molly says. "She needs me to get her something."

As Molly touches her phone and then puts the phone to her face, more green paint has transferred from her gloves to the phone, and now to her cheek.

"Oh, my goodness, look at all of this bacteria," Molly notes after looking at all the green paint that can now be found on her face and hands.

It only took a few seconds, but now the green paint that Molly had on her gloves are on many different surfaces. And this is exactly how germs spread through cross-contamination.

"Don't touch your face. Don't touch your dirty phone," Molly says to the camera. "This is called cross-contamination. There's no point in wearing gloves if you're not going to wash your hands every time you touch something."
