90-Year-Old Gets Master’s Degree and Becomes Oldest Person to Graduate from Texas School

Proving age is just a number, 90-year-old Minnie Payne became the oldest person to graduate from the University of North Texas after earning her Master’s degree. Way to go, Minnie!

It's impossible to learn and know everything about every subject and topic. An education, regardless of how many degrees a person acquires, will never be complete. Bettering oneself and situation through education and hard work is a constant, daily process.

Minnie Payne, at 90 years old, understands that there is always something more to learn. That's a big reason why she recently made history at the University of North Texas by becoming the oldest person to graduate earn a master's degree at the school.

Oldest Person To Graduate

In a clip posted on YouTube, Minnie, escorted by her grandson, walks across the stage to accept her diploma. Thunderous applause erupts from the crowd watching the graduation ceremony upon hearing Minnie’s name announced.

Minnie, in the video, gave three reasons why, at her advanced age, she went back to school and got a master's degree.

"Number one, I have always tried to better myself," she said. "And number two, I knew that bettering myself involves studying. And number three, I knew that it took effort. I patiently worked to the end."

Determined to achieve her academic goal, Minnie Payne put in the time, effort and work necessary. One of her professors in the clip mentioned that she "was very dedicated to her work," "did not cut any corners" and asked questions when they arose.

The world would be a much better place if more people had the drive, desire and mindset like Minnie's. Nothing good in life comes easy. Sacrifices have to be made, and hard work is required to achieve a worthwhile goal in this life.
