Doctors diagnosed a 15-month-old child in South Dakota with a rare form of brain cancer and now he and his family need prayers.

Parents want nothing more than for their children to be happy, healthy and safe. They want to see their kids have a fun and carefree childhood. A doctor diagnosing a child with an illness or a disease can dramatically impact these desires. It can send parents reeling and searching for answers.

Unfortunately, that's the sad reality for the family of little Charlie Murano, a 15-month-old child recently diagnosed with Primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs), according to KELOLAND.

PNETS, according to the Mayo Clinic, "are rare, cancerous tumors that start in embryonic (fetal) cells in the brain. They can occur anywhere in the brain" and "or the pineal gland."

KELOLAND reports that in the weeks prior to Charlie's diagnosis, the child started displaying what appeared to be signs of paralysis. This led to doctors conducting brain scans and discovering tumors that were "attacking his brain and spinal cord."

As any such diagnosis of a child would, it has devastated the Murano family. His mother, Abby Murano, described it as "definitely a parent's worst nightmare."

Family Is Optimistic, Relying on Love and Prayers During Difficult Situation

Despite the cancer diagnosis, the Murano family is not giving up. They are optimistic and are in it for the long haul. They are relying on their faith and prayers in this situation.

"Now we have a diagnosis, a preliminary diagnosis, and we have a plan to, to fight this," Abby said. "And we're very optimistic with all the support and the love and the prayers. And we have faith that Charlie's gonna get through this."

A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family with funds to pay for Charlie's treatment. Currently, the page has raised more than $56,000 with a goal of $70,000.

A post on the page mentions that Charlie is currently undergoing a round of chemotherapy. It also asks that everyone remember this young man in their prayers as he battles this rare and aggressive form of cancer.
