A stranger paid for a birthday cake and left a note creating an opportunity to honor two belated loved ones!
Words have the ability to stir up our emotions and touch our souls. Especially when the words expressed remind us all about what really matters in life: people, family, friends, and making memories. A note at a bakery did just that for one woman. The note was from a stranger who paid for their birthday cake leaves a woman and her husband in tears.
Carolyn Mick had ordered a cake for her fiftieth birthday at her local grocery store. After all, when one turns 50, it's essential to eat the cake, buy the shoes, and celebrate life!
When she went to the bakery to pick it up and pay for it, she learned someone had paid for her cake. Of course, Carolyn thought it was just a mix-up. But the clerk assured her the birthday cake was indeed paid for and then handed Carolyn a note from a stranger. It read, "Today is my son's 35th birthday. It is his fifth in heaven. I wanted to honor and remember him by paying it forward." She then wrote, "May you make tons of precious memories to remember for a lifetime. God bless you and yours – Tyler's Mom."
Tears flooded Carolyn’s eyes. Overwhelmed by the simple act of kindness, she went home and got on Facebook so she could thank the stranger in the community's Facebook group.
She wrote, "Dear Toni.. .you know who you are and I want to express how moved I am. This means so much that my husband and I cried together. With the turmoil of things going on it reminds us of what really matters LIFE!"
Stranger’s Act Of Kindness Has Huge Impact
Carolyn had just lost her mother the month before. Through her grief, she pondered how to honor her late mother. And Toni's kindness of paying for the birthday cake was the spark of inspiration Carolyn needed.
Toni was also a member of the Facebook group and discovered the post of Carylon thanking her had received overwhelming responses from everyone. Some of the members of the group commented that they knew Toni's son personally.
One Facebook member wrote, “This moved me so much, and so happy to see it was my local Kroger! It’s nice to see people reaching out (even anonymously) to support each other during those sad times.”
Another posted, "This is beautiful and a wonderful way to honor someone. Thanks, Toni! Now everyone is cherishing your son today."
Toni had lost her son unexpectedly at the age of 29. And to keep his memory alive, she decided to do something every year on his birthday in honor of his memory. But Toni never expected so many people to be impacted by the simple act of kindness of paying for another person's birthday cake. Yet, that small act has meant so much!
What a beautiful way to remind us all to cherish the time we have with our loved ones and how one act of kindness creates a ripple effect of generosity.
“Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.” Proverbs 21:21
