He Had Just A 10% Chance Of Survival But Defied The Odds And Has Become A Genius

Jamie Mohr is only four years old, but he has been exceeding expectations and defying odds from the very start!

After learning that her placenta had stopped working and was no longer delivering life-sustaining nutrients to her baby, Jamie's mother, Lorraine, made the decision to deliver her little boy at only 28 weeks. Doctors told Lorraine that her child had about a 10% chance of surviving, and that's when Jamie and God showed what they could do!

Weighing only 1 pound, 8 ounces at birth, Jamie Mohr met developmental goals quickly and doctors allowed him to go home from the hospital only 11 weeks after his birth! Approximately 11-13% of babies born in the United States are considered preemies. And 69% of deliveries of twins, triplets, or other multiples result in preterm births-those occurring prior to 37 weeks of pregnancy. Jamie was born many weeks short of full term.

Lorraine, a 38-year-old senior police officer in Glasgow, Scotland, began noticing Jamie's intelligence by the time he turned two years old. She started doing counting drills at home, and, within weeks, the toddler was able to count to 50, soon followed by 100!

Jamie Mohr Defies Odds All Around

Jamie Mohr is now counting in other languages! Lorraine noticed that after watching a show on YouTube in which the characters were counting in French, Jamie was able to do the same thing.

She described how she tested him, saying, "I couldn't believe it. I tested it out, I got on other programs in Spanish and Japanese, and he started counting in those languages too." German and Mandarin have been added to the list as well!

Lorraine doesn't know where Jamie gets his academic gifts. But he has been labeled with hyperlexia, which is an advanced and unexpected ability in kids for reading and decoding words beyond their chronological age.

The youngster is already challenging his daycare provider, doing calculations expected of 10-year-old students. Jamie Mohr will begin school later this year, and he will have an appropriate independent curriculum available for him when he arrives. Lorraine doesn't know what her son might do one day. For now, he's leaning toward a career as a pirate!

After all that he's been through, she is just so very grateful. "He's just a little miracle, especially after being told he would likely have a severe disability or learning difficulty. I'm just so proud of him," said Lorraine.
