Firefighter Hears Kitten’s Cries in Wildfire and Keeps the Fire Cat Safe Inside His Pocket

firefighter finds, saves cat during wildfire

One firefighter went above and beyond the call of duty when he saved a cute, furry and cuddly creature while battling a wildfire.

Nurses, police officers and firefighters are some of the best society has to offer. Day in and day out, those special people selflessly work protecting and caring for others with little to no regard for their own safety. When an emergency or disaster occurs, they are the first people on the scene willing to do whatever they can to help.

Wildfires are just one of the many situations firefighters run toward when everyone else is going in the opposite direction. Every year, it seems wildfires ravage parts of California, Washington and Oregon.

In 2020, Daniel Trevizo, a Los Angeles Fire Department captain, and his team were surveying a recently burnt Los Angeles neighborhood. But as he and his team investigated the utter devastation and ruin, he heard an unusual sound, according to Inspire More.

That sound that caught Daniel's ear was a faint meow of a kitten.

"We were in an area patrolling the neighborhood, and out of the blue, we heard a caught meowing," he said.

The frightened and lonely kitten came right up to Daniel. He placed the kitten, later named Ember, in his jacket pocket. Ember remained in Daniel's pocket of safety until getting some much-needed medical attention.

Amazingly, the kitten had only suffered minor injuries and was expected to make a full recovery, according to USAToday.

After being checked out and cleaned up at the vet, Ember found itself likely a permanent home. Daniel took the kitten home with him.

Tornados, wildfires, hurricanes and other natural disasters devastate and destroy. Millions of dollars in damage and destroyed lives are often left in their wake. Love and kindness are needed in massive amounts following such disasters.

People suffer greatly and should always be the priority when providing assistance following a natural disaster. But often forgotten in such instances are our furry, four-legged friends. Daniel, acting in love, comforted another member of God’s creation – an obviously frightened kitten calling out to anyone for help.
