Aleira Kiran, an 18-year-old high school student in England, is a hero. She put her own life at risk to help a woman and her young child, according to The Yorkshire Post.

The situation began as Aleira was on her way home after school one day. She was sitting on the top level of a city bus when she witnessed an extremely odd and unusual sight. A car engulfed in flames was rolling down the hill. It was headed straight for the bus, video of the incident shows.

The whole incident was surreal. Aleira described it as being a scene straight out of a horror movie.

"I was upstairs at the front and all I could see was flames," said Aleira. "It was like something out of "Final Destination"."

Some passengers on the bus at the time exited so they could get a better look at the engulfed vehicle. But then things got worse, which caused the remaining passengers aboard the city bus to panic, Aleira tells the outlet.

The car on fire, which was unoccupied, slammed into the bus. Soon after the collision, noises that sounded like gunfire rang out. It was the vehicle's tires popping.

Another passenger, 18-year-old Maddison Lewis, thought her life was over.

"I was like ‘'Oh, my God!’' It just started flying down the road," Maddison said. "When it hit the bus, I thought it was going to blow up. I thought I was a goner."

This caused the passengers to scramble, racing to get off the bus. Eventually, Aleira was able to make her way down the bus and onto the first level but then heard someone cry out for help.

It was a mother in tears, having difficulty exiting the bus, who was screaming for someone to get her child off the vehicle.

"A man was saying he would help and for me to go, but I couldn't leave," she said. “One of the women was saying ‘Someone needs to take my kid'. She was in tears, so I took the baby and put my hood up to shield her.”

Without giving it a second thought, Aleira grabbed the child and did her best to protect her from the flames and smoke as she got off the bus.
